Total Zen

Indian Head Massage


  • Originally centred around the head to improve hair growth of Indian women and condition them


  • Practiced in India for over 1000 years – first documented around 600 BC in texts of Ayurveda (Knowledge of Life – oldest Indian healing system)



  • Also known as ‘Champissage’


Swedish Massage

  • Consists of five basic strokes: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration


  • Invented by Swedish physiologist named Per Henrik Ling (1776 – 1839)



  • When he was injured in the elbows, he reportedly cured himself using tapping (percussion) strokes around the affected area


Aromatherapy

  • Originated in Ancient Egypt


  • Also known as ‘Essential Oil Therapy’


  • Enhances both physical and emotional health

Hot Stones

Hot Stone massage is similar to Swedish massage since it uses gentler pressure. However, it differs from Swedish massage since the therapist uses hot volcanic rock stones instead of hands to increase blood flow. 


The hot stones are carefully placed on the spine, face, feet, palms, and stomach. After the hot stone session, cold stones are placed on the body to soothe it. This rounds up the process and often provides a wholesome feel to the recipients.


Although the name "sports" massage might suggest it is limited to athletes, that's not the case. A sports massage is for people experiencing pain in certain muscles due to excessive use or multiple injuries. The massage is called sports massage since these forms of injuries are common among athletes. 


This massage uses deep pressure and calming strokes to cure muscle overuse and improve performance.
